The Work We Will Be Doing

One of the things that I truly love about ASP is the work we get to accomplish. It's really the reason we go but is secondary to the real reason we are there....building relationships with the families we serve. This week, our High School students and adults will be given a local family for the whole week and the objective is to renovate, fix and build from scratch many different projects...but the real mission is to be a source of light to families who are in major physical need...to smile, have conversation, play with kids, listen to their stories....while we build stuff.

I have been to many mission trips where the work is limited, only the adults can actually work, while the teens all stand around....except to dig a hole or a trench. At ASP, we are given major construction projects and we work together with a construction specialist, as we devise a plan, gather materials and get to work. By the end of the week, most of the work gets complete, but the memories of hanging out with the families is what remains. Each day, we make lunches at the center we are staying at, for our crew and for the family we are working for as well.  It is encouraged that we we serve them in every way possible...the construction projects are listed on the sheet when we show up...the most important projects can't be found on the construction list.

Many people think when teenagers head to these types of mission trips, they just stand around, cut a few blades of grass, find creative ways to swat at flies with hammers and hide out in the shady areas. I am always amazed, by the end of the week, what we were actually able to accomplish. Listed below is the work projects for each team....there are no construction teams that show up to do all of the work, it is only the teens and adults we bring that do all of this work. We will be tired, we will get hot, we will get upset with one another, we will work it out and we will all be blessed by the end of the week. Keep the crews in prayer this week as we make preparations to do this type of work:

1. Finish Installing Any Tin Roofing Not Yet Completed
2. Paint T1-11 Siding with Exterior paint
3. Close In the Sides of the Re-Pitched Roof with T1-11 (angled cuts) and flashing
4. Install Rake Trim
5. Prime and Paint Existing Fascia (Back)
6. Install Rear Gutters
7. Continue to Sister/Scab Studs and Ceiling
8. Insulate Ceiling and Walls as needed (Laundry Room and Kitchen)
9. Install Drywall on Ceiling (LR and Kitchen)
10. Mud and Tape Ceiling Drywall (LR and Kitchen)
11. Paint Ceiling
12. Install Paneling on Walls (LR and Kitchen)

1. Install Drip Edge
